High Fructose Corn Syrup has more fructose than any form of sugar

Myth: High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) has the highest fructose content of any other type of sugar

Truth: HFCS that is typically used in sodas and other sugary snacks has about 42% or 55% fructose (HFCS 42, HFCS 55). There are other concentrations such as HFCS 80 and HFCS 90, which are rarely ever used and only in very small amounts. HFCS has similar fructose content to table sugar (50%) and many fruits. Apples have as much as 60% fructose for comparison. HFCS is called ‘high fructose’ because, enzymes are added to regular corn syrup (primarily glucose) to increase fructose content. So, by comparison to the original high glucose corn syrup, it is high.

  1. Hi! Yes, it is high.

I know that HFCS are commonly used because they are cheap. But their effect on the body is similar to that of table sugar. They are both unhealthy

HFCS can be in occasions quite difficult to avoid. They’re present in many of our daily life consumption: candy, jam, ice-cream and soda. And they are even present in some we consider quite healthy: nutrition bars, cereal bars and granola bars.

  2. This is an extremely necessary article. I would be interested to see a few more examples. People generally hear “studies show” or “scientifically proven” without actually thinking for themselves and believe whatever is said, ESPECIALLY if it is negative and can be used to tear someone else down. It is a very unfortunate part of our society.

The simple truth is that studies and science show exactly what they are paid to show. Whoever is paying scientists are paying them to prove THEIR point. Scientists can be paid at the exact same time to prove the exact opposite in a different way.

People seriously need to find the value of liberal education and learn and think for themselves, or I fear our species is inevitably doomed to follow those in power, who unfortunately do not have OUR best interests in mind at any time.
