Marcy Home Gym
I generally prefer to go to the gym, if I want to work out, it’s just convenient for me. Some people prefer to workout at home in a dedicated space…like the garage. For those of you who prefer the latter and need to lift heavy weights, you can either build your own home gym or buy a ready made home gym. It’s really up to you and what’s in your budget. Today I will present a home gym on pricier side of things and you can decide if it’s for you (Don’t worry, next week I’ll present a more wallet friendly one).
Let’s take a look at the Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings. As usual, I’m presenting you with information that I have researched, from forums, user comments, complaints and suggestions, to give you a meta review of sorts. I’ve used similar ones, but not this particular one. Here is what I’ve found:
Product Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings

Guarantee 2 years limited on parts
Specs Marcy Diamond Deluxe Smith Cage dimensions 95” L x 79” W x 86” H. Weighs 237 lbs when shipped, which means that it does not come with the plates. The frame is made from 2”and 2.75” 14 gauge square steel tubing, so you don’t have to worry about it holding up. It will last and support heavy weights.
Features This is a very sturdy home gym. It has 6 Olympic weight plate storage pegs for you to conveniently place your plates…whenever you get them. You get an Olympic bar for the Smith machine and you can work both upper and lower body. It has both high and low pulley systems for a variety of exercise options. Other features include a multi-function weight bench with total leg developer and bicep preacher curl, a cable routed pectoral fly station for targeting chest muscles, safety Olympic bar catches, adjustable Smith bar catches and it supports a total of about 600-lbs.
The Good It’s a strong, built to last kinda gym. You can perform a wide variety of exercises with the upper and lower pulley systems.
The not so good It takes up a pretty big area, so you better have space for it. It’s not the cheapest of home gyms, and it doesn’t come with plates which is gonna add to the cost when you decide to buy them. The Olympic bar according to customers, is no where near 45 lbs.
- Very sturdy heavy duty construction frame
- Supports both upper and lower pulley attatchments
- All the accessories are included (row handle, two single handles, triceps rope, lat bar, ankle strap).
- It comes with an adjustable weight bench and Olympic bar for the Smith machine.
- Supports up to 600 lbs of weight
- Can perform well over 100 exercises
- 2 years limited on parts
Cons
- It is expensive, especially since plates have to be bought seaprately
- Takes a long time to assemble
- 7 ft Olympic free weight bar sold separately
Final thoughts The Marcy Diamond Elite Smith System with Linear Bearings is a very sturdy all purpose home gym. It is definitely a little pricey, especially when you consider that plates and the Olympic free weight bar have to be bought separately. You can weigh this against having to pay a gym membership monthly and decide if it makes sense to buy it. But, once complete with the bar and weights, you have a complete system. If you keep it for a couple years, then it’ll pay for itself. If you’re interested you can check it out here .
I would agree with you that this home gym would pay for itself after owning it for a few years. I’ve used Smith equipment at the gym before, and if this Marcy home gym is built to the same commercial standards, then it will last a lifetime.
When it comes to using weights, the Olympic weights and bars are the best. As you mentioned, the price is the determining factor as the equipment speaks for itself.
It’s a good option for those who don’t want a gym membership.
Nice review, seems like a good product. This seems like a good buy for anyone committed to true fitness goals. I know for many people like myself who live in colder climates a home gym is a great idea because going outside in the cold and snow can some de-motivate to go to the gym. I like the honesty of this review and showing both pros and cons. Seems like it gets you everything you need. Thanks for the review!
No problem
I like your review, and I am not afraid of the price. I feel that fitness is always a priority for someone wanting a healthy lifestyle.
Many years ago, I bought my first home gym – I am one of those that likes their own space for working out – it was the Gravity Edge. It took me a long time to assemble, but once I got it together, I loved it.
I would really like to give this gym some more consideration. I recently relocated to China with my wife…are there options to have this product shipped to us in China? And, what about the plates? Can they be ordered and shipped internationally also?
Thank you for the great information.
